WASHINGTON, DC – In response to President Trump’s massive layoffs at the Department of Education, the first step in his plan to shutter the entire agency, Campaign for a Family Friendly Economy Executive Director Sondra Goldschein released the following statement on the impact this action will have on American families:
“There is nothing that Trump will not do to fund tax cuts for the ultrarich— even when that means raising costs for America’s children and families. The results of yesterday’s action have immediate and devastating impacts on the programs families rely on, and that is the point. Kids without their school lunches. Working families doing back-of-the-napkin math to figure out how to pay for groceries and after school care as programs are forced to close. It will be those people— who never had to think about the Department of Education and all it does ever before— who will pay a crushing price so Trump can reward his billionaire friends.”

The Campaign for a Family Friendly Economy is fighting for a future where all people can afford to care for themselves and their loved ones. We do this by building political power to pass policies that lower costs for families, like paid family and medical leave, quality, affordable child care and elder care.
