WASHINGTON, DC – In response to reporting that the Trump Administration plans to eliminate the Head Start program, which provides affordable child care for more than 800,000 families, in its budget, Campaign for a Family Friendly Economy Executive Director Sondra Goldschein released the following statement:
“Donald Trump and Elon Musk, who have never once had to consider how to pay for child care, have apparently decided that a program that makes it possible for hundreds of thousands of parents to work and care for their families should disappear. This is a disgusting betrayal of American families who are counting on this administration to lower costs – not stab them in the back.”
While Trump and Musk spend their time sitting ringside at UFC fights, here’s the havoc that they would be wreaking on working families if they are successful in eliminating Head Start:
- 1 million parents would be unable to get to work.
- 800,000 children would go without meals, developmental screenings and health care.
- “[…] mass chaos and confusion and worry […]”
- Experts contend that significant cuts to Head Start will have a domino effect on the entire child care industry, devastating an already underfunded sector and impacting millions who depend on having access to high-quality child care for their children.

The Campaign for a Family Friendly Economy is fighting for a future where all people can afford to care for themselves and their loved ones. We do this by building political power to pass policies that lower costs for families, like paid family and medical leave, quality, affordable child care and elder care.
