Campaign for a Family Friendly Economy PAC Endorses John Mannion for New York’s 22nd Congressional District

CFFE PAC Will Run a Major Canvassing Effort in Syracuse with the Goal of Knocking on Nearly 20,000 Voters’ Doors to Flip Critical House Seat

September 13, 2024

WASHINGTON Today, the Campaign for a Family Friendly Economy PAC (CFFE PAC) announced its endorsement of State Senator John Mannion in his bid to represent New York’s 22nd congressional district, a key pickup opportunity for Democrats in what will be one of the most closely watched races in the country.

CFFE PAC has an ambitious goal of knocking on nearly 20,000 voters’ doors in the 22nd district to drive votes for John Mannion. Family-friendly policies that combat the high cost of caregiving are top of mind for voters in this election, and John Mannion has proven himself to be a champion for working families in the New York Senate.

This endorsement of John Mannion is part of CFFE PAC’s broader effort this cycle to support candidates who prioritize family budgets over the dangerous, out-of-touch policies of their opponents. Since 2020, CFFE PAC has run one of the largest independent expenditure programs in the country supporting candidates like John Mannion. Electing a Democratic trifecta is essential to passing critical policies like paid family leave, investments in affordable child and elder care, and lower drug prices. The path to flipping the House runs through New York swing districts like NY-22.

Throughout his time in the state legislature, John Mannion has worked tirelessly to secure critical funding and support for New York families. He successfully championed $1 million in state funding for the nationally recognized Help Me Grow New York program, which ensures parents and caregivers have the tools necessary to help children reach their full potential. In Congress, Mannion will be a key partner to the Harris-Walz administration as they build an economy that addresses the needs of working families.

In contrast, Mannion’s opponent, Republican Rep. Brandon Williams, aligns himself with the extreme agenda of Donald Trump, who endorsed Williams’ reelection bid. Trump’s Project 2025 platform calls for the elimination of Head Start, a program that provides access to early childhood education for underserved and rural families.

“In John Mannion, we have a critical opportunity to flip this seat and pave the way for Democrats to take back control of the House this November,” said Sondra Goldschein, Executive Director of CFFE PAC. “Right now, Republican Rep. Brandon Williams is prioritizing his extremist agenda over upstate New York families’ budgets. CFFE PAC will be working in overdrive to send Williams packing and replace him with John Mannion, a proven champion for families struggling with the high cost of caregiving.”

Across the state, voters support kitchen-table economic solutions that will lower the cost of caregiving. New Yorkers overwhelmingly support policies that make child care more affordable. A recent poll showed that 74% of New Yorkers support public funding for universal child care, demonstrating the urgency of sending leaders like John Mannion to the U.S. House to continue championing these issues.

In 2020, CFFE PAC spent almost $18 million on a program in support of Kamala Harris and U.S. Senate candidates that spanned Wisconsin, Michigan, Maine, Iowa, Montana, Virginia, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Florida and Georgia.
