Campaign for a Family Friendly Economy Launches Million-Dollar Effort To Hold Iowa Elected Leaders Accountable for Making Life More Expensive

Affordable Iowa Calls on Reps. Nunn and Miller-Meeks to Support Policies That Will Lower Costs for Working Families

November 18, 2025

WASHINGTON – Today, the Campaign for a Family Friendly Economy launched Affordable Iowa, a million-dollar program to expose elected leaders who have failed to stand with working families and lower costs, in the hopes that they will change course immediately. The Affordable Iowa campaign will feature a paid field program and digital content with Iowans sharing how rising costs are impacting their families. Through raw, unfiltered stories from parents, neighbors and small-business owners, the campaign will spotlight the sacrifices families are making to get by. Their voices will appear on billboards and in local media across the state, calling on leaders to stand with working families and make life more affordable.

When faced with a choice between working people and billionaires, Representatives Zach Nunn (IA-03) and Mariannette Miller-Meeks (IA-01) have sided with corporate interests and the ultrarich. By sharing the stories of struggling Iowans, Affordable Iowa will illustrate the true cost of Nunn and Miller-Meeks’ policies: economic anxiety at kitchen tables across Iowa. In elevating the voices of constituents who are struggling to make ends meet, Affordable Iowa aims to persuade these members to reverse course and support legislation to lower costs for families.

“Zach Nunn and Mariannette Miller-Meeks pledged to lower costs, yet have done nothing to improve the lives of working Iowans,” said Campaign for a Family Friendly Economy Executive Director Sondra Goldschein. “We’re calling on them to reverse course, fulfill their promises and start delivering for Iowa families, farmers and small businesses who are feeling squeezed by the high cost of living.”

Time and time again, Reps. Zach Nunn and Miller-Meeks have chosen the billionaire class over working Iowans, voting to:

  • Slash health care for families across Iowa. They both voted for the Republican budget bill that is guaranteed to cut Medicaid and Medicare benefits and let ACA premium tax credits expire, forcing more than 130,000 Iowans to choose between skyrocketing health care costs and going without insurance. What’s more, they voted to gut health care for veterans who were exposed to burn pits and Agent Orange while deployed.

“Nunn and Miller-Meeks have spent the year undermining us—refusing to support policies that will help Iowans, instead supporting an economic agenda that drives our prices up,” said Karla Solis, an Iowa resident. “Meanwhile, families like mine are stretching every dollar—cutting back on groceries, scaling down on child care and splitting prescriptions just to get by. As a constituent of Rep. Nunn, I am asking him to support policies that will actually lower costs for my family.”

Affordable Iowa is working to expose elected leaders who claim to stand with working families but repeatedly side against them when it matters most. As costs for everyday necessities like groceries, child care, and health care continue to rise, Affordable Iowa is   mobilizing communities to demand real action to lower costs and pushing members of Congress to take meaningful action.
